Tile and Stone Floor Cleaning in Swansea

If your stone or tiled floor is starting to look tired, scratched or just not as bright as it used to be, you’re not alone. We see it all the time.

At Pro Carpet Cleaning Swansea, we are not just professional carpet cleaners. We also restore and deep clean stone and tiled floors across Swansea and the surrounding areas. Marble, limestone, travertine, porcelain, if it’s hard flooring, chances are we have worked on it.

Every floor’s different. And that matters.

Stone Floor Cleaning Done Properly.

Stone isn’t like standard tile. It’s porous. It absorbs dirt. And it doesn’t respond well to the wrong products and inappropriate cleaning.

A lot of the floors I’m called out to have been cleaned regularly, but with supermarket cleaners that slowly leave residue behind. Over time, that builds up, and the floor loses its clarity.

What we do is strip all of that back properly.

Deep clean first.
Then refine the surface if needed.
Then seal it correctly.

It sounds simple. But it has to be done in the right order.

Marble & Travertine Polishing in Swansea

Marble doesn’t suddenly go dull overnight. It happens gradually. Most people don’t notice until the shine has almost completely gone.

Light scratches, small etch marks from spills, general foot traffic — it all adds up.

Using professional diamond polishing equipment, I carefully smooth the surface and bring the natural finish back. Not an artificial gloss. The stone now looks how it should.

Then it gets sealed properly. Polishing without protection is ineffective.

Recent Stone Floor Jobs in Swansea

Earlier this year, we restored a limestone kitchen floor in Swansea that had become patchy and flat from everyday wear. Once we stripped it back and deep-cleaned it properly, we applied a water-based sealer to keep the finish natural while protecting it from staining.

We also cleaned a stone floor in Mumbles that had built up years of residue. After fully stripping and rinsing it, we sealed it with a high-quality impregnating sealer to protect the surface without changing the look of the stone.

And in Sketty, we revisited a travertine floor we’d previously worked on. It had lost some of its shine over time, so we carried out a maintenance polish to restore that smooth, bright finish again.

Three different floors.
Three different solutions.

That’s how it should be.

Why Stone Floors Go Cloudy

If your floor looks milky or dull, it’s usually one of three things:

  • Too much cleaning product

  • Residue left behind

  • Or the sealing was done before the floor was properly cleaned

Stone needs to be completely clean before sealing. Otherwise, you’re sealing in dirt. And that’s when that hazy look appears.

Once corrected properly, it stays clear.

Sealing Matters More Than Most People Think

Unsealed stone absorbs spills quickly. Wine. Coffee. Cooking oil. It doesn’t take much.

A proper impregnating sealer gives you protection and makes ongoing maintenance easier. It won’t make the floor indestructible; nothing does, but it makes a big difference long term.

In my opinion, sealing is the step that some people underestimate the most.

Karndean & Amtico Floors

We also clean and refresh Karndean and Amtico flooring.

These floors can lose their finish over time, especially in busy homes. A deep clean and fresh protective layer can bring them back to life without replacing anything.

Sometimes they just need the right attention.

Frequently Asked Questions By Our Past Clients

How much does tile and stone floor cleaning cost in Swansea?

It depends on the floor, to be honest.

A lightly soiled porcelain tile is very different from a worn marble or travertine floor that needs polishing and sealing. Size, condition, and type of stone all play a part. The easiest way is for me to take a look and give you a proper quote. No guessing. No pressure.

How often should I get my stone floors professionally cleaned?

For most homes in Swansea, every 12 to 24 months is about right. Kitchens and hallways usually need attention sooner because they get the most traffic.

Regular maintenance makes a big difference. Leave it too long, and restoration becomes more involved.

Can you remove scratches from marble floors?

In most cases, yes.

Light and moderate scratches can be removed using diamond polishing equipment. We gently refine the surface until it’s smooth again. If scratches are deeper, it can take a bit more work, but it’s usually fixable.

Marble is surprisingly restorable when it’s handled properly.

Why does my stone floor look cloudy or milky?

This is one of the most common questions I get.

Usually, it’s caused by cleaning product build-up, residue left behind, or sealing carried out before the floor was fully cleaned. Stone is porous, so if dirt gets trapped underneath a sealant, you end up with that dull haze.

Once it’s stripped back and done properly, it clears up nicely.

Does natural stone really need sealing?

Yes. It really does.

Marble, limestone and travertine all absorb liquids quickly. Without a sealer, spills can sink in and stain before you’ve had a chance to wipe them up.

A proper impregnating sealer won’t make the floor bulletproof, but it gives you time. And that’s usually all you need.

How long does stone floor polishing take?

Most domestic jobs in Swansea are completed in a day. Larger areas or heavily worn floors can take longer, but I’ll always explain the timeframe beforehand.

No surprises halfway through.

Can you clean dirty grout lines?

Definitely.

Grout holds onto dirt more than the tiles themselves, which is why it tends to darken over time. We use specialist equipment to deep clean grout lines properly. If needed, we can also recolour them to refresh the overall look of the floor.

Sometimes that alone transforms the whole room.

Is professional stone cleaning better than doing it myself?

For regular maintenance, home cleaning is fine. But for deep cleaning, polishing, or stain removal, professional equipment makes a big difference.

Some off-the-shelf cleaners can actually leave residue or damage natural stone without you realising it. I see it more often than you’d think.

Done properly, stone should last decades.

Do you cover all areas of Swansea?

Yes, we cover Swansea and the surrounding areas, including Mumbles, Sketty, Morriston, Gorseinon, and Swansea Marina.
